Hey everyone! The Body Shop has recently launched an array of makeup products under the banner “Sealed With A Kiss” and terms the products as Jacqueline’s Signature Line. The collection has eyeshadows, liquid matte lipsticks and even a cushion foundation! TBS seems to have hit right on the pulse of the market with the ongoing rage of liquid lipsticks and cushion foundations. The collection is comprehensive, yet versatile. Today I will review their Matte Lip Liquids. I picked up 5 of them in the shades Nairobi Camellia, Paris Peony, Sydney Amaryllis, Tahiti Hibiscus and Tokyo Lotus. The best part is that their makeup products are completely cruelty-free and stand for a guilt-free indulgence. 🙂

I’m very impressed with the price point of these. Each TBS Matte Lip Liquid comes for INR 695 for 8ml only! Yes. I believe it is the first time that I’m using the word “only” after a price tag of a product, because most productsI have reviewed here were worth their price. But my my. These liquid lipsticks are so amazingly priced I say! Now you get why I picked 5 of these. 😛
My Overview of the Product :
The Body Shop Matte Lip Liquids have been launched in the US and UK late last year, and the products made their way through to India this March with a tag of TBS India’s brand ambassador Jaqueline’s #sealedwithakiss. So every product in this collection has a cute sticker of an imprinted kiss and her signature to resonate with the theme. 🙂
The first thing that I noticed in these matte lip liquids is their uncanny resemblance with the NYX Soft Matte Lip Creams, in not one but multiple ways. 🙂 NYX SMLCs once took the beauty world by storm, and I personally love them not only for their uniqueness, but also for their wonderful shade range. The Body Shop Matte Lip Liquids have a similar packaging as the NYX Soft Matte Lip Creams, only the TBS ones are slimmer and taller. The black applicator is a smooth matte with a velvety touch, and the body is indicative of the color of the matte lip liquid. These have an invigorating candy fragrance, or perhaps that of popsicles, which I quite like! TBS never does fragrances bad now do they? 😉
The doe foot applicator makes for an easy application and the texture is a creamy mousse type. The TBS Matte Lip Liquids glide on super smooth and feel very lightweight on the lips. The color payoff is pretty decent too, but I need to layer twice (or very rarely, thrice) to get the desired color. However, I make sure to let the initial layer dry off a bit before I add the next. The TBS Matte Lip Liquids dry down to a very comfortable powdery matte finish and do not feel uncomfortable matte that tend to tug on the lips. I absolutely love the formula of these beauties. 🙂
The Body Shop Matte Lip Liquids stay put for a good 5 hours and survives light snacks. I am nevertheless amazed at how less these transfer on to my coffee mugs when I sip off them! This came so unexpected and I’m so happy. But these lip liquids do not survive heavy meals. Few shades fade somewhat unevenly too, tending to accumulate at some areas of the lips feeling tad uneasy. So if you’re up for a date or an evening catch up with friends at a cafe, these matte lip liquids are the perfect wearables for your pouts. But come a dinner party or a buffet meal with foodie partners, these are a total nay. 😀
But it’s the absolute amazing finish that makes The Body Shop Matte Lip Liquids a winner. More so because of the beautiful price point at which these are available. However I always prep my lips only adequately before putting on a lippie that says it’s a matte. So my experience with these is very pleasant. The only con that I had with the NYX SMLCs was that they’d settle on to fine lines after a few hours of wear and feel somewhat dry. But the TBS lip liquids gave me no such pain and are even easily removed with a makeup remover.
I love the shade range of TBS lip liquids too, except for the too vampy Sicily Iris (a deep dark plum) which is a color I can hardly pull off, and Taipei Orchid that’s kinda pale for my complexion. But I absolutely adore all the shades that I picked up. 🙂 Read on below :
Nairobi Camellia – This shade is a very muted pink with brown undertones, almost nude but gives that dash of a color to the pout. It is a dusty rosy pink and reminds me a lot of NYX soft matte lip cream in Cannes. If you have used it, you would get the similarity between the two shades. Nairobi Camellia will look very pretty when paired with a smokey eye look. I love this shade too!
Tahiti Hibiscus – A pretty berry color, great for the fall and splendid for an evening party. I’d love pairing it up with black or grey outfits and in winters. 🙂
Sydney Amaryllis – This is a beautiful red with orange undertones. On some complexions it appears more coral while on others it appears more red. It looks absolutely stunning on my NC 40 complexion and I love it. 🙂
Paris Peony – A true pink, very beautiful, and a color you can sport everyday if you are a pink lover! It looks almost fuchsia on my lips (although it appears a true pink in the swatch), and it is very wearable. I think it would look lovely on most Indian skin tones. Fuchsia shades are one of my favorites, and Paris Peony makes for an invaluable addition to my fuchsia lippies. 🙂
Tokyo Lotus – Oh how I love pinks, and this shade is such a winner. A gorgeous and haute pink for your pout. It is not your regular office wear but deserves a special evening to be worn. 😉 It looks striking and perks up the entire look and will work amazingly with a white outfit. This shade is such a stunner. Only downside, it may look too neon-y and wash out darker skin tones. But those with fair-medium complexion, this shade will make your day. 🙂
In the swatches though it’s Tokyo Lotus that looks only a little close to fuchsia, but on the lips it comes out very different. Both these shades remind me so much of my fave NYX SMLCs, Milan(looks bright pink on me) and San Paolo (this looks fuchsia on my skintone). 🙂
The Final Verdict :
The Body Shop Matte Lip Liquids are an affordable bunch of liquid lipsticks that have a versatile shade range. There’s a color for each one of you. These smell delicious, have good pigmentation, lasts long and has minimal transfer. My lips are little pigmented and I prep them before wearing the any matte lip color. These wore amazingly well, did not tug at the lips and dried down to a comfortable matte finish. Only problem that I had with a shade or two is the uneven fading and a teeny-weeny build up on some parts of the lips after a meal. But these lip liquids are travel friendly and you can always carry one in your vanity for re-application!
At a price point of INR 695, The Body Shop Matte Lip Liquids are to die for. Most of the colors are very summer-friendly, so if you haven’t yet laid your hands on one, I daresay you gift yourself at least one shade from the collection. 🙂 I’d say Goa Magnolia is a pretty good choice as well, but I only had to resist the temptation of owning way too many pinks. 😛 Apart from standing out in terms of all qualities of a lip color (at its reasonable selling price), these are also so photogenic! It was a pleasure to photograph these beauties and the shades looked stunning at every angle that the camera pointed from. So I let my imagination run wild and I must say I love how vivid these looks against the green. And oh, don’t I just love All Things Green? 😉
My Rating : 4.75/5 🙂
