Hi people! How many of you are willing to use a scrub for your hairs? As intimidating as it may sound, things are really not that awful with The Body Shop’s fine new launch last year. TBS launched the Fuji Green Tea Refreshingly Purifying Cleansing Hair Scrub Shampoo, and I wasted no time in getting my hands on this one! And why not? I love TBS, and seldom have I had a bad thing to say about their products. The hair scrub sounded so innovative in itself, and I really wanted to try it out. I have been using this for months now, and hit the bottom of the tub as I decide to put forth the review. 🙂
My scalp is the oily, sweaty type, while my hairs are normal. My hairs act as a dirt magnet and given the city’s pollution, a hair scrub could do only good. That’s what I had in my mind when I opted for this new scrub-in-shampoo from TBS. Read on to know if it lived up to my expectations or not!

Price: INR 1995 for 240ml. However, it bears a price tag of INR 1845 on Nykaa at present. Coming from TBS, the price is not a shocker. I find it uniformly priced as the rest of their products, in line with the quantity.
My Experience with The Body Shop Fuji Green Tea Refreshingly Purifying Cleansing Hair Scrub:
The hair scrub comes in a sturdy dark plastic jar, with a screw cap. You can find most of the details on the labels on the jar. The green accents of the packaging are reminiscent of their Fuji Green Tea range of products, and exude a simple calm. No doubt I adore the packaging. But it does feel a little heavy when full, so I don’t find it to be travel-friendly.
The second extremely welcoming feature of this otherwise overwhelming-sounding product is its wonderful fragrance. As soon as I open the jar, my olfactory senses are filled with a zesty aroma which feels instantly uplifting and energizing even before taking bath! I love the fragrance so very much. It feels perfect for tropical summers – so summery and so refreshing.
Now coming to the most important part: the usage. Since the TBS Hair Scrub Shampoo contains salt crystals, it is important to note that the crystal particles tend to settle at the bottom of the jar. As a result you get more of the creamy solvent (shampoo) than crystals at the top. Thus one must ensure mixing up the entire contents before scooping out a little and use on the hairs and scalp. To be honest, I realized the mixing of layers only after a couple of uses when I dug further into the tub and realized a solid base.
I use this hair scrub once a week, and need only a small amount for my head. The trick is to scoop a little amount on your palm, then dilute it with water before finally applying it just like a shampoo. But wait! You need to be gentle with this product as this is not your generic liquid shampoo!
I must admit initially it did feel a little uncomfortable applying salt crystals on my scalp, but I was relieved to note that they didn’t feel harsh against the scalp skin at all. However it is important to use a more gentle hand while applying this product, as I would with any exfoliant. Since the TBS Hair Scrub Shampoo contains sulfates, it lathers really well. Moreover there is this undeniably cooling sensation that is clearly evident as soon as the hair scrub comes in contact with the scalp. One can easily attribute it to the presence of menthol in it. Accompanied with the relaxing feel is a wave of fresh aroma that sweeps across my senses whenever I’m using the TBS Fuji Green Tea Hair Scrub! It And washing it off is all simple too, just like any regular shampoo, albeit with a gentler hand.
The salt crystals are not of uniform size, as a result some melt away as one washes off, and a few don’t. But nevertheless they don’t feel abrasive on the scalp, although the texture may feel a bit gritty on the hands. The reason it is important to dilute it before application. A small tip from my side: target the scalp at first, eventually cover up your hair strands with the lather for a thorough cleanse-off. But a bath with this very unusual product is an amazing experience in itself. I honestly enjoy using this on my hairs so much!
Squeaky clean scalp with an uber fresh after-feel! It washes away all the dirt and grime accumulated on the scalp over the week. It also does not aggravate my hair fall, which was so unexpected and made me super relieved. In fact, I have observed a reduction in hairfall with this product. Additionally it imparts a beautiful shine and luster to the hairs (thanks to the presence of nourishing Community Trade honey from Ethiopia), along with some volume. It even helps with dandruff issues in the winter months! Although it does not completely eliminate dandruff, it sure reduces it to a noticeable extent. 🙂
I do not need to shampoo my fine hairs for the next two days, when the average I shampoo is on alternate days. I must say I love how my hairs feel after a cleanse with the TBS Fuji Green Tea Refreshingly Purifying Cleansing Hair Scrub Shampoo. It not only dissolved my apprehensions about using a scrub for my hairs, but also made me fall in love with the overall idea of a hair scrub!
The only objectionable ingredient in TBS Fuji Green Tea Refreshingly Purifying Cleansing Hair Scrub to some would be sulfates. Initially I too was hesitant in buying this. But then I gave in and I’m not disappointed, to say the least. On another note, the product is free from silicones and parabens, as well as is completely cruelty-free, a cause that The Body Shop sincerely advocates.
The Final Verdict:
The Body Shop Fuji Green Tea Refreshingly Purifying Cleansing Hair Scrub Shampoo is a big name and the product certainly lives up to it. TBS has nailed it in the hair care category by introducing this most innovative product in the market. The 240ml scrub shampoo lasts long because one doesn’t need a lot to lather. It makes the hair clean and fresh, clearing up all the accumulated dirt and grime from the scalp. It cleans deeper and better than a shampoo does, and that is exactly what makes it different and unique.
The scrub shampoo does not feel gritty on application, and works great for my hairs. It also does not cause my hairs to fall, and imparts a beautiful shine to the strands. Not to forget the cooling sensation and the refreshing fragrance of the product! I can go on and on about how I can’t do without it particularly in the summers. I love what it does to my hairs. Living in a polluted tropical city, and possessing an oily scalp with fine hairs, this product has become indispensable for me now. I might as well repurchase it during a next sale at TBS! 🙂
If you are still hesitating about putting your money in a hair scrub, you can trust this tub of cleansing goodness and give it a try. It is not abrasive at all! However on this note I’d also want the brand to come out with a smaller version of the 240ml jar, so that people can try it first before getting the full-size product. Totally and wholeheartedly recommended!
