Hi people! Hope you all are having a superb time in the ongoing festivities. How beautiful does our country look with all the festive colors and lights all across? I love what our Indian traditions have to offer in perpetually all sectors of life. Ancient Indian knowledge is slowly being revived in all quarters, and that’s something I definitely take pride in.
Even in the beauty industry, it is utterly satisfying to see several Indian brands and skincare formulators coming up with some above-par, global standard products. Soapworks India is one such brand that I’m so elated to have discovered. If you are looking for clean, green (zero-waste), cruelty-free beauty products of international standards, Soapworks is here to satiate all your needs. Very recently it even got certified ECOCERT!
I was very kindly sent across a few of their products, including one of their bestsellers: the Cleansing Balm with natural fruit acid AHAs for Pore Refining and Blackheads. I have used it under various occasions and all I felt for this was pure, undiluted love. Read on for my experience with this cleansing balm of sorts!
Price: INR 597 for 100g. Available on their official website as well as on Amazon. (Watch out for their discounts, especially festive offers!) They regularly update products and formulations on their Instagram page, check them here.
About the Product:
This powerful balm contains AHAs that is naturally derived to remove dead skin cells and blackheads. Pore refining balm gently cleanses away heavy makeup, sebum from pores, blackheads, and dead skin cells caused by dryness. It keeps the skin moisturized even after washing the face by forming a moisture protective film.
My Experience with Soapworks India Cleansing Balm with Natural Fruit Acid AHAs:
One of the primitive USPs of this brand has been its focus on zero waste packaging. The balm thus comes in a tin container with a screw lid. The details about ingredients, instructions and all other requisite information come neatly printed in the label. Overall the packaging is simple, aesthetically pleasing and has those bright Indie vibes about it which I so love. The balm itself is somewhat pinkish in color and emanates a warm, nutty fragrance – another lovable feature. 🙂 It is important to store the product away from direct sunlight to avoid melting.
If you have used cleansing balms before, you might be acquainted with the silky texture that they all invariably possess. What makes this particular balm stand out is its noticeable, fine-grain texture, along with the silky feel. The balm melts on application from the warmth of the fingers, resulting in a smooth, satiny film on the skin. You need to apply it on dry skin, massage it gently in circular motions, then use water to emulsify the film, eventually washing it all off by and by.
The grains in the balm are perceptible as the balm melts and emulsifies. But these very fine grains are neither abrasive nor feel harsh on the skin. I love how effectively it removes all traces of makeup, also clearing up pores in the process. For someone like me who has medium to large pores on the cheeks and around the nose, this cleansing balm is a perfect pick! I have used cleansing balms from high-end brands before, but somehow this one from Soapworks India feels more satisfying on my skin. It also definitively clears out all traces of mascara, deep-seated highlighter shimmers and highly pigmented matte lipsticks. And all I need is a very little quantity to remove a full face of makeup! (You can check out my IGTV video on how I use it. It’s up on my Instagram handle).
The Soapworks India Cleansing Balm with Natural Fruit Acid AHAs can also be used on a daily basis as part of the evening skincare routine, even if you are not wearing any makeup. It is great to cleanse skin off any dirt and grime (and not just makeup), in a very potent way. My skin feels utterly soft, plump, clean and oh-so-fresh! It even leaves behind a hydrated feel on my skin post washing. It can be used as a first step in double-cleansing as well. I choose to use it as a primary cleanser or the only cleanser in my skincare routine depending on how much I have to clean. The cleansing balm even soaks up sebum from my T-zone and keeps it feeling fresh and clean for a long time!
There is so much to love about this balm. It is not only supremely gentle on the skin, but is also an efficacious cleanser. It helps out clear blackheads and whiteheads, and unclogs pores. The skin looks bright and glowy, this is mostly because it offers a thorough deep-cleanse. However it is impertinent that you only use gentle hands with this. It is a general rule of thumb for any facial cleanser. Ever since I’ve included this nourishing cleanser in my pm routine, I wake up to plump, hydrated skin in the mornings!
I would recommend it for all skin types, even oily ones. Very oily skintypes can enjoy this balm in winters, and also throughout the year. If you need, you can always follow it up with a mild secondary cleanser. Dry and mature skintypes are sure to benefit a lot from consistent use of this cleansing balm with natural fruit AHAs. There is also a visible reduction in marks on the skin over time. This is because acids accelerate cell turnover, thus revealing a healthy skin from within.
A little about the ingredients:
Natural fruit acid AHAs are mostly derived from citrus fruits and sugar cane. This balm makes use of both these ingredients. The naturally derived glycolic acid is great to ensure a cell turnover, thus removing dead skin cells and revealing healthy skin from within (Hello glowing skin!). It helps correct skin discoloration, and may improve collagen production as well.
The Soapworks India Cleansing Balm with Natural Fruit Acid AHAs also has a very little percentage of salicylic acid or BHA, which is again a chemical exfoliator. Other than acids, this balm has a good share of moisturizing ingredients like castor, olive and sunflower oils and glycerin.
Ingredients – Cetearyl Olivate (and) Sorbitan Olivate, Helianthus Annuus (Sunflower) Seed Oil, Diheptyl Succinate, Capryloyl Glycerin/Sebacic, Ricinus communis (Castor) Seed Oil, Hibiscus extract, Stearic Acid, Water, Vaccinium Myrtillus Fruit/Leaf Extract, Saccharum Officinarum (Sugar Cane) Extract, Citrus Aurantium Dulcis (Orange) Fruit Extract, Citrus Limon (Lemon) Fruit Extract, Acer Saccharum (Sugar Maple) Extract, Tocopherol, Olea Europaea (Olive) Leaf Extract, Water (aqua), Benzyl Alcohol (and) Salicylic Acid (and) Glycerin (and) Sorbic Acid, Rosemary oil.
The Final Verdict:
The Soapworks India Cleansing Balm with Natural Fruit Acid AHAs is an excellent and unique cleanser of sorts. It is suitable for all skintypes. If you are 25 or above, you can easily opt for this cleansing balm with goodness of natural acids. I love it for reasons more than one. It smells great, emulsifies fantastic, comes in a zero-waste reusable packaging, and has beneficial ingredients for the skin. Most importantly, it cleanses most efficaciously, unclogging pores and drawing out impurities from deep within.
There is noticeable reduction of blemishes with consistent use, revealing fresh, glowing skin from within! Just be careful to massage gently and not go rigorous while applying on the skin. You may however choose to avoid it if you have painful red bumps, instead wait for a couple of days to use it. A little goes a long way, and storing it is not a hassle. Highly recommended!
