Hey everyone! I hauled quite a few sheet masks from The Face Shop during its launch offer at Nykaa. I have the Real Nature Calendula Mask for review today. With the occasional raining and following humidity and the rising heat, I was quite apprehensive of trying out a sheet mask, because these come so loaded with serum. But I love the effects of the sheet masks on the skin, so gave the Calendula one a try. I think I took a little risk with this one because of the weird way my skin behaves at season transition times. I also tried this on an experimental basis to understand whether my oily-combination skin can tolerate the moisture levels that sheet masks tend to provide, during the upcoming summers and moonsoon. Nevertheless, the sheet masks undeniably feel so cool and relaxing that I love unwinding after a hectic day with these. 🙂

My Overview of the Product :
The packaging of The Face Shop Real Nature Calendula Face Mask is quite similar to most other sheet masks in the market. A sachet with the mask drenched in serum inside. Only the appearance is different. It has printed calendula flowers against a woody, gray background. Well the calendula flowers look very much like our Indian marigolds. On a little research, I gathered that both of these belong to the same family and sometimes marigolds are referred to as calendula and vice-versa.
This mask has a floral fragrance to it which I did not find bothersome. The mask comes neatly folded in the sachet. On application, the immediate effect is a cooling sensation which is the sole reason why I want to use sheet masks in summer. This mask also feels immensely soothing on tired skin, particularly if you happen to use this on returning from outdoors. The one difference that I noticed with the Innsifree sheet masks is the thickness of the mask. Innisfree ones have a triple-layered sheet, and The Face Shop masks claim to have air pockets that trap the moisture within them. Well this mask felt a tad thicker than the Innisfree sheet masks.
The mask should be kept on for 10-15 minutes, but then my skin takes more time to absorb the serum. But again, I was using this on an experimental basis to check tolerance levels, so kept it on for not more than 25 minutes. The sheet mask had almost dried up by that time except for a few areas. After discarding the mask, I gently tapped in the excess serum that stayed behind on the surface of the skin. Initially it felt a little greasy, but the serum soon absorbed completely. The face was looking and feeling fresh and bright apart from being adequately hydrated. I washed my face after an hour or so. The skin felt plump and nourished, as a result of drinking all that moisture from the mask. 🙂
I have been taking good care of my skin at the moment, so the mask hadn’t a lot of skin problems to deal with. Since calendula is a remedy for very dry skin, so it did recharge the hydration of my skin to a great extent. I used the mask at night, and next morning my T-zone felt somewhat oily. Post morning CTM routine however, the skin definitely looked healthy and felt plump. I am so glad this mask did not break me out and that my experiment was successful. 🙂
The Final Verdict :
Overall I am quite satisfied with the results of The Face Shop Real Nature Calendula Face Mask. It does not claim tall and does what it claims, that is, provide ample hydration to the skin. If it did not break out my oily-combination skin at this time of the year in a tropical climate, I believe this should be boon to dry-skinned beauties. The Calendula sheet mask made my skin smooth and radiant. It also imparted a dewy glow to my face as an immediate after-effect. The mask is enriched not only with the goodness of calendula, but has macadamia oil and grapefruit extracts as well.
However, I find the Innisfree sheet masks more breathable on the skin. But The Face Shop Calendula Face Mask does not disappoint me with its results. Oh and did I mention this is free from parabens too! The fragrance is nice and the mask feels relaxing on the skin. A perfect pampering skin routine after a frenzied day. I’m relieved that I need not give up on these beauties even in summer. 🙂
