Hi everybody, one of the most talked about sunscreens in the market over the past few years is the Neutrogena Ultra Sheer Dry Touch Sunblock with SPF 50+. And it does not stop at just the high value of SPF. It also contains PA+++ (which protects against UVA rays, while SPF protects from the UVB ones); and Helioplex. Helioplex is a formulation of broad-spectrum ultraviolet (UVA and UVB) skin protection containing avobenzone and oxybenzone made by Neutrogena. Avobenzone-containing products have decreasing efficiency after a few hours of sun exposure, but the addition of oxybenzone reduces the amount of degradation that occurs. (Source : wikipedia). Now that’s a strong ingredient list for a sunscreen I must say!
The Neutrogena Ultra Sheer Dry Touch Sunblock is priced at INR 199 for 30ml (it used to be for INR 175 previously). You can purchase it at Neutrogena counters or even online at discounted rates.
My Overview of the product –
The sunblock comes in a tube packaging with a cap which is nice and robust. The 30ml tube however does not come written with a detailed list of ingredients. The texture is creamy and blends quite nicely giving a semi matte appearance. One needs only a small amount of it to cover up the face and neck. Although the sunblock itself is white in color, it does not leave any white cast post application. It is quite light weight on the skin as well.
The Neutrogena Ultra Sheer Dry Touch Sunblock is meant for every skin type. Mine is oily combination and I love this product to bits. The sunblock claims to be waterproof which is a big plus. However I don’t exactly find it to be sweat proof. I tend to sweat somewhat even after applying this in very humid weather, particularly my T zone turns somewhat oily, although not immediately after application. Now I cannot blame the sunblock because Kolkata doesn’t have the driest summers. It has a very humid climate for a major part of the year. But it works much better for me than other sunscreens that I have tried so far. It is non-comedogenic like most Neutrogena products and it is a bliss for those who have large pores. This also doesn’t break me out, ever.
The Neutrogena Ultra Sheer Dry Touch Sunblock has a “light fresh scent” which is quite fine with me. It also asks users to “apply liberally on face and body 15 to 30 minutes before sun exposure“. However this does not prevent tanning completely. But I believe I would have tanned a lot without this sunblock than with it.
The only con that I find is the presence of silicones in it. Otherwise the Neutrogena Ultra Sheer Dry Touch sunblock is an amazing sunscreen that is reasonably priced as well. A 30 ml tube lasts me more than 5 months. It also has amazing ingredients (helioplex it is :)) to provide broad spectrum protection to the skin without making it feel heavy or greasy.
My Rating : 4.7/5
(It breaks my heart to deduct, but it is because of the presence of silicones.)
