Hi people! It is probably my last post on LUSH. I have talked about LUSH Herbalism and Sleepy in two previous posts, and now it’s the turn for another cult product from LUSH – Ocean Salt. This has been a long pending post, because I’ve already finished it up long back, and all I need to do now is to pen down my thoughts on it. All the pictures you see here are old; I had shot them when I was around halfway through the product. Being a bath and body addict, LUSH is like a dreamland for me. I have talked about my love for LUSH before, and I’ll never shy away from doing so ever.
Ocean Salt is basically a scrub, infused with sea salt and enriched with grapefruit extracts, avocado butter, coconut oil, mango butter, lime oil and glycerin, to name a few. I had purchased it along with Herbalism and Sleepy from an Instagram seller. However nowadays it is difficult to buy from them as most sellers don’t get it any more.
About LUSH Ocean Salt:
Limes steeped in vodka, grapefruit and lashings of salt go into this invigorating face and body scrub.
Sea salt is rich in minerals and is excellent for scrubbing and buffing skin. We also add rich, silky avocado butter, coconut oil and seaweed absolute to keep your skin soft, smooth and conditioned.
How to use:
If you feel you need a good scrub down, apply to dry skin and rub all over using circular motions, or for a more gentle buff, use on damp skin.
What is Self-Preserving?
Ocean salt is also now available in self preserving form too, which means it keeps itself clean without any help from synthetic preservatives. For a coarser feeling scrub opt for the lovely, original, preserved formula, and for a gentler touch for your face or delicate areas why not try Ocean Salt Self Preserved? The choice is yours.
I have the self-preserving variant. Also those of you do not know it yet, LUSH as a brand is completely cruelty-free, i.e., it does not test on animals and it sources its ingredients only from cruelty-free suppliers!
My Experience with the Product:
I had purchased the 120g variant of Ocean Salt. It comes in a packaging similar to that of Herbalism and Sleepy. The color is a cream-toned with slight hints of green, and smells heavenly. The fragrance is immensely refreshing and energizing, with underlying citrusy scents and a little of coconut. It is tough to explain the fragrance accurately, but it is really hard to not like it.
The texture is pretty gritty, but the texture on the upper surface can be tad misleading. If you have read my review on The Body Shop Fuji Green Tea Hair Scrub, you’ll know that the salt particles tend to settle at the bottom. The same is the case with Ocean Salt. You literally need to dig up the underlying salt particles and mix with the creamy solvent in the upper layers. That’s how you get the perfect texture. Otherwise you will be left with a layer of salt and negligible solvent when you hit the pan. The product makes for a perfect body scrub. Although it says face and body scrub, I won’t recommend you to use on your face because I personally felt that the particles were a little abrasive for the face skin. It is better to stick to chemical exfoliation particularly when your skin can’t handle scrubs and you’re hitting 30 or crossed it. However youngsters with normal to dry skin can try it for the face once in 8-10 days.
The salt grains perform an excellent job of buffing away impurities and dead skin cells. At the same time, the nourishing ingredients in the product ensure that your skin is not robbed off moisture in the process. It literally makes my skin feel and look fresh, at the same time leave it smelling awesome. I do not like killing the refreshing scent of Ocean Salt post bath, so usually follow it up with a mild-smelling body moisturizer. The ingredient list is fantastic, making LUSH Ocean Salt a perfect product for indulging in some self-care.
List of ingredients :
Fine Sea Salt, Hand Harvested Sea Salt, Fresh Grapefruit Infusion, Organic Silken Tofu, Glycerine, Japan Wax, Sodium Cocoamphoacetate, Fresh Organic Lime Extracted in Vodka, Mango Butter, Extra Virgin Coconut Oil, Avocado Butter, Lime Oil, Seaweed Absolute, Violet Leaf Absolute, Citral, Limonene, Linalool, Perfume, Colour 42090.
What an exotic list of ingredients! Both seaweed absolute and violet leaf absolute are used as perfumery ingredients in Ocean Salt. But they both have their own unique skin-salving properties. Seaweed is rich in Vitamins A,C and E, while violets have wonderful antiseptic properties.
Organic Silken Tofu –
Tofu is extracted from soy milk, and is rich in proteins and vitamins. It is highly moisturizing as well and imparts the creamy consistency to the product.
Fresh Grapefruit Infusion –
The refreshing happy citrusy fragrance of Ocean Salt can be attributed much to its grapefruit infusion. Apart from its antiseptic and antibacterial properties, grapefruits are known to perk up the mind, eliminate stress, tone the skin and keep it clean!
Fresh Organic Lime Extracted in Vodka –
Another exotic-sounding ingredient in the self-preserving variant of Ocean Salt combines the properties of lime and traces of alcohol. Lime too works to clear the mind, has antibacterial and antiseptic properties, rejuvenates the skin and senses, much like grapefruit. Alcohol is known to decongest pores and clear them up.
The Final Verdict:
LUSH Ocean Salt is a favorite for several reasons. Not only is the brand itself completely cruelty-free, but also it uses and re-uses its tubs for packaging. The product is unlike other scrubs in the market. Albeit a physical scrub, Ocean Salt manages to stand apart from its contemporaries in terms of ingredients. It is an absolute delight in terms of its consistency and fragrance. It is granular and yet not hurtful, that’s what I enjoy. I love how utterly soothing and refreshing it is to the skin and to the senses. I’m in love with its fragrance, and how it cleans skin without drying it out. It exfoliates gently, however I still won’t recommend using it on the face. Ensure that you mix up the layers before use, and you’re assured to have a delightful bath time!
