Hi everyone! I adore lip colors, and particularly when they come in a liquid form. NYX soft matte lip creams are one of my all-time faves. I was quite surprised when Lakme launched lip colors in a mousse form in the 9 to 5 range, which could also be used as cheek tints! That was quite an innovative step on Lakme’s part and I’m very impressed. 🙂 I picked up the Lakme 9 to 5 Weightless Matte Mousse Lip and Cheek Color in the shades Plum Feather, Burgundy Lush and Coffee Lite.

My Overview of the Product :
First off, I must say I’m very happy with the entire concept of a lip and cheek mousse that Lakme has come up with. These come packaged in the standard 9to5 rose gold avatar and enclosed in a cardboard box. The applicator is one of its kind, and I have never encountered such ones before. It provides the ease of outlining the lips before filling them in. The only problem is I have to look for the shade name printed on the bottom as there’s no other means to distinguish the colors. But the shiny, rose gold screw cap bearing the applicator gives an amazing lush feel to the entire packaging. 🙂
The Lakme 9to5 Weightless Matte Mousse Lip Cheek Color has a sweet, vanilla fragrance to it and reminds me of ice creams. 😀 The consistency is very “mousse” in the sense that it’s literally “weightless” as Lakme claims and doesn’t feel heavy on the lips. It is initially moist on application and takes a few minutes before drying out completely on the lips. However, those with dry lips should consider prepping up before wearing it.
The Lakme 9 to 5 lip and cheek mousse is as light as air on the lips. So much so that one day I even forgot I was wearing it while at home. It was only when I was sipping tea and found the color transfer to my tea cup that I realized I had worn it. 😀 That said, yes the formula is not transfer-proof even on drying up. But the transfer is minimal and not heavy.
The Lakme 9to5 Weightless Matte Mousse Lip Cheek Color has excellent color pay-off on the lips and on the cheeks. So I am always a little careful while working with it on my cheeks. The applicator is amazing to work with, and it gives a lot of control on the amount of color I want on my lips. A single swipe gives an opaque finish and dries off to a powdery matte finish. On the cheeks however, I prefer blending with my fingers. It lasts on my lips for on an average of six hours, and survives meals and drinks with minimal fading; on my cheeks it lasts even more!
The Colors :
Plum Feather – A beautiful dark pink shade leaning towards plum. It is the perfect plum for those who cannot carry dark, vampy plum shades. Like fuchsia, this color also perks up the face with a pretty pout! On the cheeks, I was super careful with this extremely pigmented shade. Just a dot was enough, and I blended it with my fingers. But then the end result was beyond my expectations. I almost thought this shade wouldn’t work as well on the cheeks but it actually gave a healthy, pink flush to my cheeks. 🙂 Now I’m confident to just slip it in my handbag and I’m good to go 9 to 5!
Burgundy Lush – A pretty brownish red that will suit every Indian complexion. I didn’t have high hopes from this shade as well to work on my cheeks. But with a light handed application, it sure did give that beautiful rosy flush to my cheeks. 🙂 I love it both on my lips and my cheeks.
Coffee Lite – It is an unusual shade of brown, with a mauve undertone. I like it more on my cheeks than on my lips. It works amazingly as a blusher on my NC 42 skin tone. The color defines the cheeks in a subtle way that looks so natural. With a dot and only a little more, I almost felt I was not wearing anything on my cheeks. But there was this hint of color that made my face look more defined. I do not usually use a bronzer, but those swear by it can give this shade a try. 🙂
The Final Verdict :
I love all the shades that I have got for myself in terms of pigmentation and color pay-off. The formula is great and so is the lasting power. It is easy to take off with a makeup remover and doesn’t tug on the lips. I even find it to be pocket-friendly, given the amazing mousse texture and usability as both a blush and a lip color. I would recommend to blend this mousse on your cheeks using fingers, as fingers give a better control over the color build-up. But it may accentuate fine lines after a long wear time and when it starts fading off the lips. The smell may be overpowering for sensitive noses, but I have no issues on that aspect. I only wish Lakme made it easier to distinguish among the shades. Overall, I’m very happy with the Lakme 9to5 Weightless Matte Mousse Lip Cheek Color, and hope Lakme introduces a few more shades in this range. 🙂
My Rating : 4.75/5
