Hi people! Quite some time passed that I did a beauty product review on the blog. However I have been keeping comparatively active on my Instagram. But there are certain products that IG posts do not do justice to, and one such product is my HG serum – the Even Better Clinical Dark Spot Corrector from Clinique. I have been using this for more than 1.5 years now, and I guess I have garnered enough experience to review it finally.
It was when my skin was behaving funny, and I couldn’t get what the problem was. And being in the later part of my twenties, I decided to change my skincare regime for good. Honestly I was loving my skincare regime before with carefully selected Neutrogena products – cleansers, toners, serum, moisturizer and sunscreen. I have reviewed quite a few of these earlier, you might want to check them out. But somewhere I felt my skin wanted a change, so what better place to head to but Clinique!
So I hit the Clinique counter at Forum Mall, Kolkata. The representative there did an in-depth analysis of my skin there, and used products over a cleansed skin to check whether my skin got irritated or not. I loved how much care he took and time he invested in studying the skin type and listening to all that I had to ask and enquire. My oily-combination skin type fell under category 3 in Clinique’s classification. Of course being a beauty enthusiast, I was elated with all the wonderful skincare and makeup products on the shelves of the Clinique counter. Somehow I had the feeling I had come to the right place and my skin problems would now be solved! Talk about vibes people. 🙂
So there it was. Since I sought to change my entire skincare regime, I was advised Clinique’s 3-Step Skincare System for a regular CTM routine . Additionally I was advised this serum having a lengthy and fancy name – the Even Better Clinical Dark Spot Corrector – aimed to reduce uneven skintone and lighten dark spots. The price did come as a shock; the product is priced at an exorbitant INR 7000, for 50ml! But just talked about vibes didn’t I? So I decided to give it a shot and see for myself what this hugely raved skincare brand could do to my skin. But if you are an Estee Lauder ANR addict, the price won’t be a shocker to you. It isn’t for me too now, but the time I am talking about, I had only switched from a drugstore brand to a premium one.
My Experience with Clinique Even Better Clinical Dark Spot Corrector
The packaging is sophisticated to say the least. It exudes simplistic sophistication from its body. The 50ml container is relatively hefty, the slim white body contained in an outer transparent body. It has a pump dispenser housed in a transparent cap. Overall a decent, no-fuss-yet-elegant packaging, that looks and feels premium. Clinique sure doesn’t aim towards an overly fancy packaging, but I honestly love the clean look of the bottle.
The product has a beige-ish color, somewhat similar to our own desi ghee. 🙂 It is mostly free from fragrance, but if you have strong olfactory senses, you might get a faint bitter hint of smell. Some might even find it medicinal. This serum has a different order of application. Thus unlike most serums that need to be applied right at the start, post cleansing and toning, I was asked to layer this on over my Clinique Dramatically Different Moisturizing Gel. And I was asked to avoid in case I had a really nasty breakout. Although one can use the Even Better Clinical Dark Spot Corrector twice a day, I used it only at night for most days, and occasionally twice a day. I need just one pump of this product for my entire face.
I must be very thankful to Clinique because within 2 weeks of religiously using these products, I could feel a huge difference in my skin texture. Or should I say, the result was evident right from the first use! And no I’m not exaggerating. While I was apprehensive of this complete change in my skincare regime, my skin did not react at all. On the contrary, I was welcomed to a beautiful, glowing skin in the mornings. I did not use any skincare apart from Clinique’s in that time, and my dark spots lightened, pores shrunk, and skin would feel hydrated and healthy. In fact I started getting compliments from colleagues and friends that my skin would look healthy and fresh. Beaming me!
Now I know exactly why the Clinique Even Better Clinical Dark Spot Corrector is a game changer. Over the last 1.5 years of using this, I quite often switched serums, keeping my CTM routine more or less same. But the moment I switched back to this corrector serum, there is this visible difference that I can’t overlook. No matter my skin condition, this serum only heals. I legit love it. Over time my faith has only increased in this gem of a product. In fact, I’ve only just started using the cult favorite Estee Lauder ANR over some 2 weeks, but I think I saw results better with Clinique’s Corrector Serum. However I won’t be putting out a judgement right now about ANR. Let it pass the test of time, and till then let me just rave about Clinique Even Better Clinical Dark Spot Corrector.
The very first in the ingredient list is Aqua or water. You know now why this one is a hydration boost.
It also contains turmeric and rice extracts, both of which are in vogue in the cosmetic industry thanks to their brightening properties. Additionally both are good agents to fight acne and prevent their occurrence.
Grapefruit is another ingredient to achieve a glowing complexion, whether taken as food or applied topically via a product. It also has massive anti-ageing properties. The Even Better Clinical Dark Spot Corrector also has wheat germ extracts, that are rich in Vitamins E & B6, and boosts collagen production in the skin.
The list gets even more interesting with the addition of two very unconventional yet potent ingredients, the birch bark extract and scutellaria baicalensis (Baikal flower) extracts. Both of these are highly anti-inflammatory as well as strong antioxidants. Birch bark has the property to hold moisture and doesn’t let it escape the epidermal perimeters. Both of these have skin brightening properties as well. (Wow!)
The other recognizable ingredients from the list are cucumber and mulberry extracts. Cucumber helps control acne, tones the skin, and improves skin texture. Mulberry is an acclaimed antioxidant.
The only controversial ingredient in this product would be silicones. Many studies show that silicones are non-comedogenic and are actually widely used in anti-ageing products. However if your skin is sensitive to silicones, you might want to think twice. For me though, this product has worked really well and didn’t clog pores, and I haven’t a single bad thing to say about it.
The Final Verdict
By far Clinique Even Better Clinical Dark Spot Corrector is hands down my favorite serum. Although I agree that I have so many other brands to try, but my present skin loves it. I might as well get another favorite, but this will never get ticked off from my favorites list. This is high-end and pricey, but let me tell you it is worth every penny paid. It lasts LONG, by which I mean super long, and you need not worry about it getting expired soon.
With all the amazing ingredients, serum is a wonderful combination that fights not only stubborn dark spots, but also signs of ageing. It brightens the skin from inside and the effect isn’t temporary, or gets washed off. It is for real and I could see a difference in my skin, and it worked really wonderfully for me.
