My Overview of the Product :
First off, oh the packaging! It is cute and gorgeous at the same time, and speaks of sublime sophistication. The mud mask comes in a dark glass jar with a matte black lid. The label on this one is a beautiful green, so much like a sea green or perhaps jade green? I so love the packaging. 🙂 The Body Shop Himalayan Charcoal mask is the color of mud with black charcoal and green tea leaves infused in it. The fragrance is heavenly and a beautiful blend of citrusy and floral, with subtle earthy notes. A whiff of this sends me down the memory lane, reminiscent of rainy evenings, of walks in the rain, of wet soils and of the smell of rains in the breeze. 🙂 It is a rejuvenation on its own!
The Body Shop Himalayan Charcoal is a “purifying glow” mask. Charcoal has inherent properties to draw away impurities from the skin and detoxifying it. As a result, it is deemed excellent for oily and acne-prone skin. The texture of the mask is thick, unlike the Amazonian Acai variant that is thinner. The first thing I noticed while applying the mask was how cool it felt on the skin. Secondly I observed it starts drying out faster, like most other clay masks. The Amazonian Acai isn’t as fast drying as this one. The exfoliants had started to show by this time, as I spread it over the skin surface. For the ten minutes that I kept it on, the cooling and tingling sensation continued to persist and of course the smell accompanied. Well the mask was actually working! Those ten minutes were moments of pure bliss. 🙂
I used warm water to wet my fingers and gently exfoliated in circular motions to rinse off. My skin felt squeaky clean and nourished from within. Additionally, there was also this beautiful glow of clean, healthy skin, which felt firmer and toned. The Body Shop Himalayan Charcoal mask did an amazing job of detoxifying the skin without dehydrating it. I felt refreshed and rejuvenated with not only what this amazing mask did to my skin, but also with the reminiscence of good times that its aroma walked me through! 😀
A Quick Look at the Ingredients :
Kaolin – A naturally occurring clay loaded with vitamins and is a boon for oily, sensitive and acne prone skin. It cleans skin from deep and reduces production of sebum, making it soft and without stripping it of its natural oils.
Moroccan Lava Clay – This works amazingly at reducing pores and purifies skin by drawing away impurities. It is gentle enough for sensitive skin that may be dry or oily.
Camellia Sinensis Leaf – or more famously, green tea, has huge anti ageing benefits. It is excellent for troubled skin; has anti-bacterial, anti-inflammatory properties and is a natural source of anti-oxidants; helps reduce pores and clean the skin from deep within.
Argania Spinosa Shell Powder – Powder made from shells of nuts from the Argan plant. This is widely used as exfoliant and peeling particles. It peels off dull and tired skin to reveal a more youthful face.
Charcoal Powder – Bamboo charcoal has anti-bacterial and anti-fungal properties, cleanses and exfoliates skin, unclogs pores. This also works fabulously for oily, acne-prone skin.
Argania Spinosa Kernel Oil – Our beloved Argan oil, nourishes and hydrates dry skin just as well as keeps sebum secretion on oily skin at check. Furthermore, it has anti-ageing benefits and soothes inflamed or irritated skin, and the benefits keep counting.
Shea Butter – Rich in Vitamin A, antioxidants and fatty acids, shea butter is highly moisturizing. It is also known to shield skin against UV rays.
Tea Tree Leaf Oil – extremely well known to fight acne and acne-related problems, blemishes, and also possesses anti-fungal properties.
Eucalyptus Oil – This is well known for its skin-healing and therapeutic properties. I had a bottle of eucalyptus oil that I got from the Nilgiris in South India because I tend to catch cold easily. It would work miracles for me when I caught cold.
Whoa! So the Body Shop Himalayan Charcoal mask is an amalgamation of so many astonishing exotic ingredients. No doubt it works so beautifully on the skin and on the senses too! 🙂
The Final Verdict :
Well well, what to say? I love, love The Body Shop Himalayan Charcoal Purifying Glow Mask. What is there not to love about it? It is 100% vegan (wow!), free from harmful chemicals and not tested on animals. It cleans, detoxifies and brightens the skin without drying it out, and it smells stunning and nostalgic (to me, it does 🙂 ). TBS, I’m so glad you did a product so wonderful. 🙂 This can be used throughout the year as well. The Superfood face masks have pretty packaging too and I’m certainly loving both that I have, to bits. I only wish these came with a spatula that could have been such an adorable addition.
