Hi everyone! Today I have a product that I have been using for quite some time now. I bought it from my last visit at the TBS store. The Body Shop Fresh Nude Cushion Foundation is my first try at cushion foundations. This is mainly because the cushion foundation trend is made famous by Korean brands, and most of them are available online. So I hadn’t the heart to buy from them without swatching.
This is when TBS launched its new makeup collection with #SealedWithAKiss, under the umbrella of Jacqueline’s signature range. I have a lot of faith in TBS, so I decided to pick one cushion foundation from them. Not that they gave me a lot of shade options, but I was happy to note that one of the two (seriously? just two?) shades did blend in seamlessly on my NC 40 complexion. 🙂 So I picked up 03 Malawi Beach almost immediately. The other shade option is 04 Wanaka Honey.
Not to forget my undying love for the Matte Lip Liquids from the same range. I reviewed them some time back on the blog, and they are just so perfect for this time of the year! I’ll confess they were a major deciding factor when I picked up the cushion foundation from the same range in the blink of an eye. 😀

My Overview of the Product :
The Body Shop Fresh Nude Cushion Foundation has a compact, monochrome packaging. A white lid and rest everything in black. A press button to pop open the lid which houses two compartments. The top one has a round sponge applicator, and it further makes way to a lower compartment with the product. The foundation is soaked in a mesh cloth and one needs to use the sponge to press and bring it out.
I find the packaging to be actually quite compact and travel-friendly. There will be no leakage or spillage whatsoever and you get an applicator, and even a mirror on the lower side of the lid. Pretty much a foundation that can be easily used on-the-go. 🙂
Sorry for the pad applicator looks not very clean, as I have been using the product for quite sometime now. 🙂
The foundation has a watery consistency. The sponge puff applicator makes application super easy. This foundation does not form a layer on the face, rather blends in seamlessly giving a smooth, even finish. It also imparts a fresh dewy glow to the face, and has SPF 25 as well. 🙂 However, The Body Shop Fresh Nude Cushion Foundation is able to provide only a sheer to low-medium coverage. It is also buildable and does not look patchy on the skin. Although it doesn’t conceal my imperfections completely but it’s nothing that can’t be fixed with a concealer! For use on a daily basis, I generally use it on its own.
But even though it imparts a dewy glow, it starts melting with sebum production in sweltering heat. Unfortunately I’m a victim to both these with the temperature reaching as high as 35 degrees in my city these days. Nevertheless, this stays put for a good number of hours under controlled temperatures. 🙂
The Body Shop Fresh Nude Cushion Foundation is extremely lightweight, and perfect for a casual no-makeup makeup look that I love during the hotter months. It hydrates the skin and feels superbly comfortable too. It is non-comedogenic, which is again a bliss for me. I have confessed before in my posts I have a few relatively large pores. A major reason why I need to be quite careful in choosing my skincare and makeup products.
How I use The Body Shop Fresh Nude Cushion Foundation :
I use this foundation over my Clinique moisturizer (the one that I’m loving these days 🙂 ), and optionally set it with a loose powder. I prefer using the loose powder on my T-zone to mattify my high sebum-production zone, while leaving the cheeks as is. While I quite like the fresh dewy finish on my cheeks, but my T-zone tends to shine a lot more if I don’t dab my powder over it. There are times when I have used the loose powder all over the face as well. You see it all depends on the weather. I live in a tropical country where the weather fluctuates at its will. So what I generally do is, I check the temperature and the humidity level, and balance out my makeup accordingly. 😀
The Body Shop Fresh Nude Cushion Foundation stays put for a good 7 hours on an average. If I’m in ambient environment, it lasts even longer. If my skin starts feeling oily, I blot it out with a tissue and that helps. The fact that it is a completely vegan product, makes me even happier. It has a subtle floral fragrance, which starts fading with application itself. It eventually fades away with time. Those who like their makeup products to be completely fragrance-free may have an issue. I personally have no problem whatsoever with the fragrance. 🙂
The only major concern that I have is the limited number of shades that it comes in. It has 5 shades worldwide, and two them launched in India. Are two shades enough to define Indian skin tones that vary across so much? I don’t think so. I honestly wish TBS did a few more shades with its first ever cushion foundation.
The Final Verdict :
I’m quite happy to use a cushion foundation that’s cruelty-free and vegan. Thumbs up for that. 🙂
The Body Shop Fresh Nude Cushion Foundation is lightweight foundation and easy to apply. It evens out the skin texture and imparts a soft, dewy glow. It does not clog pores and is buildable. However it only provides a sheer to low-medium coverage and can be optionally set with a powder. It has a mild fragrance too but I don’t find it bothersome. The sponge puff applicator is great as well and the packaging is compact and travel-friendly. 🙂
The Body Shop Fresh Nude Cushion Foundation has SPF 25 and I’m glad TBS added a little portion of sun protection in it. I don’t always like layering it over my sunscreen so the SPF in the product itself is a comfort. It has an average staying power of 7 hours, highly varying with skin types and weather conditions. However a major con I found with this product is the limited number of shades. I think this cushion foundation will work across skin types, only if you are lucky enough to find a match.
My Rating : 3.75/5
