My Overview of the Product :

I love the way TBS does packaging. Their products look so aesthetically appealing and thoughtfully designed. The Superfood face masks are no exception. The Body Shop Amazonian Acai face mask comes in a dark glass jar with a matte black lid, a magenta label to give it its distinctive identity from the rest in the range. The mask is a pretty berry color with tiny exfoliant particles floating in it.  It looks like some kind of a fruit jam in the jar. 🙂 The fragrance is extremely refreshing and actually uplifts my senses with a single whiff!

The Body Shop Amazonian Acai Mask – Directions for Use

The Body Shop describes this as an “exfoliating gel facial mask“. It does look berry in the jar and when I scoop it out, but turns into a thin transparent film on application. This mask feels cool on the skin that it soothes and relaxes the senses. I usually keep it on for 15 minutes, as directed by TBS, and rinse off with water in “circular motions to gently exfoliate”. The exfoliating particles are not abrasive and feel gentle on the skin, but at the same time provide for a good exfoliation.

Coming to the efficacy of The Body Shop Amazonian Acai mask, it definitely imparts that brightradiant glow on the face that speaks freshness. It diminishes signs of fatigue in a jiffy, and that’s what I so love about this product. However this mask leaves my cheeks feeling a little dry and my T-zone comfortable, so I need to follow it up with a moisturizer (well take note, the dry weather isn’t over yet as I write). But I can nevertheless stop raving about the product. 🙂

A Quick Look at the Ingredients :

The Body Shop Amazonian Acai Mask - Ingredients
The Body Shop Amazonian Acai Mask – Ingredients

Argania Spinosa Shell Powder – Powder made from shells of nuts from the Argan plant. This is widely used as exfoliant and peeling particles. I think the amazing exfoliation of this mask should be attributed to this component in the ingredient list. It peels off dull and tired skin to reveal a more youthful face. 🙂

Luffa Cylindrica Fruit – A species of gourd that is again used widely as an exfoliating agent. No doubt this mask performs so well at what it claims!

Euterpe Oleracea Pulp Powder – Here comes the star ingredient, put your hands together for Acai Berry! ( :p a little drama is always fun 🙂 ) The fruit itself is widely acclaimed for its energizing properties. It has high nutritional values and comes loaded with antioxidants, tonnes of nutrients and fatty acids. It is also rich in amino acids which can be accredited for its energizing properties. And take my word, this mask smells so much like berries that I can almost imagine how acai berries may smell and taste like! 🙂

Bertholletia Excelsa Seed Oil – or Brazil nut seed oil, is rich in vitamins and fatty acids. Another emollient ingredient in this superfood mask.

Orbignya Oleifera Seed Oil – Babassu seed oil, another superfood from the banks of the mighty Amazon in Brazil, that has anti-ageing and anti-bacterial properties, besides being rich in fatty acids and vitamins. It is known to reduce inflammation and contributes towards skin-healing as well. The cooling property of this mask is by the virtue of this amazing ingredient. 🙂

Paullinia Cupana Seed Extract – Or Guarana Caffeine (wow!), also from the Amazons, has toning and astringent properties. Caffeine works greatly towards reducing cellulite as well as has other anti-ageing benefits, and who does not love caffeine! 🙂

Whew! So I’m done with decoding the scientific names. 😀

The Final Verdict :

As is evident going by the powerful ingredient list, The Body Shop Amazonian Acai mask is both “energizing” and imparts “radiance”. 🙂 This is a pick-me-up mask that is easy to use and gives immediate results. So whether you need to prep up for an after office party, or flush your fatigued skin with energy before you head off to work, this is a very handy remedy from The Body Shop. The only thing that got me a little upset was that TBS did not include any spatula with the superfood range of products. After all, we use masks to cleanse our skin and dipping fingers make it prone to contamination. These do not come cheap and at this price point, including a pretty spatula goodie could have added to the charm of the product. But all in all, I am pretty happy with what the product delivers!

My Rating : 4.75/5

I have shared my experience with The Body Shop Himalayan Charcoal Purifying Glow Mask here.

Have you tried any of the Superfood Face Masks from TBS? If yes, then which one? How did it fare for you?
